How to get from Bologna to Rimini

Bologna is the largest Italian city closest to Rimini, and also with the airport, where you can easily find cheap tickets throughout the year, and not just in season. The distance from Rimini to Bologna is only 120 km, and the travel time is 1-2 hours. You will learn about how to get from one city to another by train, bus or car, as well as which one is cheaper and more convenient, from this article. We start with the most popular way of traveling in Italy - trains.

Trains Rimini Bologna

The easiest, most convenient and fastest way to get from Rimini to Bologna is by train. The message is arranged like a clock, and several dozen trains daily run between cities.

It is important to know that Bologna is one of the key railway junctions in Italy, therefore, if you are traveling from Rimini, say, to Milan or Florence, in many cases the path will go through Bologna.

Bologna Station is considered one of the main transit hubs in Italy.

In season, trains between Bologna and Rimini run almost around the clock. There are so many of them that if you arrive at any of the stations during the day, then almost certainly the next train will be sent in the next 15-30 minutes.

The route runs both regular regional trains and the fast boom Frecciabianca. Travel time ranges from 53 minutes to 2 hours. As a rule, the faster the train, the more expensive the ticket.

But for the Rimini-Bologna route, the time difference in the journey is uncritical. Indeed, if most trains cover the distance in an hour and a half, and tickets for them cost from 10 Euros, then why pay 2 times more for a fast train, which will save only 30 minutes of time.

Even the slowest trains travel Bologna-Rimini in 2 hours

You can see the current schedule and purchase tickets online on the popular transport portal omio.ru former GoEuro. It is convenient in that there is a Russian-language version, tickets cost the same as at the box office at the station, and the purchase procedure is much simpler.

In addition, at Omio.ru you can get a discount of 10 Euros on your first trip, which even the carriers themselves do not give. To do this, you need to register in the system at this special link.

Immediately after registration, you will have access to a coupon of 10 Euros, which can be used for your first purchase on Omio more than 40 Euros. If the price of the trip is less, then you can take return tickets or for several people.

In more detail about how this works, BlogoItaliano told in a separate article How to get a 10 Euro discount on trains in Italy in 5 minutes.

Along with regular trains, fast trains also work on the route

Tickets can also be purchased at the station in Rimini or Bologna on the day of departure, but this is not always convenient.

In addition to the queues and the lack of English-speaking personnel, fast trains immediately before departure often do not have to sell the cheapest tickets and have to pay a lot.

Therefore, buying online is preferable and will save a lot of nerves at the station itself.

Bus from Rimini to Bologna

With such an abundance of trains between cities, the Bologna-Rimini bus can be more convenient only in one case: when you arrive at Bologna airport and you need to get to Rimini, avoiding unnecessary transfers.

In this case, you can use special shuttles by GoOpti minibuses that run from Bologna Airport in the direction of Rimini about once an hour. The journey takes about 2 hours, and the ticket price starts at 25 Euro.

GoOpti shuttle buses run between Bologna and Rimini

But this is not always convenient, because there are few routes at a price of 25 and it may be much more profitable to get from Bologna airport to the station, and from there drive to Rimini by train.

In fairness, it should be noted that Bologna Airport is only one of the stops on the bus route; the final stops are at the stations of both cities.

You can check the shuttle bus timetable, check the current prices and purchase tickets for them online on the omio link too.

Taxi and Transfer Bologna Rimini

If you wish, you can also get from Bologna to Rimini by taxi. Of course, it will be more expensive, but more comfortable.

You can book a car in advance via the Internet link to your arrival at the airport of Bologna or Rimini or take it on the spot.

The latter option is usually more expensive and may require much more effort. Because by no means all drivers want to drive 100 km, and there are only a few speakers of a different language, except Italian.

Not all taxi drivers will be ready to drive 100 km

If you book a car at the airport, the driver will meet passengers in the arrivals area with a sign with their names. If the flight is delayed, the car will wait patiently at the airport of your arrival.

If necessary, you can call a car with a roomy trunk or even a whole minibus if traveling in a group.

The cost of a taxi between Rimini and Bologna starts from 180 Euros, and indicative tariffs can be found in the screenshot below.

Another plus of ordering online is that the driver will know your route in advance, and you don’t need to pay anything “from above” to the price indicated on the site. Therefore, in this case, additional cheating of local taxi drivers, which the Italian authorities are still struggling with, is excluded.

You can clarify the current tariffs for the route of your trip, ask questions to the Russian-speaking support service or order a car online on this page.

Rent a car or own car

If you travel by car, then everything is much simpler. Rimini and Bologna are connected by the beautiful A14 (E55) motorway. Traffic jams are rare, and therefore you can get there in about an hour and a half.

In addition to the price of gasoline, the fare for the trip to paid areas should also be added to the cost of the trip: it will be about 8-9 Euros.

It is better to rent a car in Italy through a car rental price comparison service - this is usually cheaper. The largest such service in Europe is considered Rentalcars link - one of the projects of the same team that developed booking.com.

Its main advantage is that Rentalcars monitors prices at the same time in all major car rental companies and leads them to a single view. Therefore, it is much easier to find the most advantageous offer here.

For more information on how Rentalcars works and what to look for when choosing a car, see the detailed video below. It was shot in Greece, but almost everything is relevant for Italy.
