How to get from Milan Malpensa Airport to Milano Centrale Central Station

The main airport of Milan Malpensa is located 50 km from the city and is the second largest in Italy, second only to Rome Fiumicino Airport. But in Milan, few people linger: most travelers use it as a connecting point to travel from here to other regions of Italy. And since the main transport in Italy is trains, from this article you will learn about the main ways to get from Malpensa Airport to Milan Central Station.

Helpful advice: If you are planning to spend more than a few hours in Milan, we recommend downloading our author's Milan audio guide for iPhone.

This is a ready-made audio guide for Milan for your smartphone, which will help you learn the most important things about the 60 most important sights of the city and will cost much cheaper than even the most budget tours. You can install the application on your smartphone on this page.

Buses

The most profitable way to get from the main airport of Milan to the central station is to use the bus.

Transfers are carried out by several companies, but the famous European low-cost carrier Terravision is the most famous and profitable carrier. Bus stops at the airport are right next to the T1 and T2 terminals, and in the city, the routes follow directly to Milano Centrale train station.

Buses run all day at intervals of approximately 20 minutes. From Terminal T1, the first flight leaves at 5:05 in the morning, the last - at 0:10. In the opposite direction - from the station to Malpensa - at 3:50 and 21:55, respectively. The journey takes about 50 minutes.

Although the carrier is positioned as a low-cost airline - this applies only to the price. Buses on the routes are new, but there are no baggage restrictions. One-way fare is 8 Euros (2018), if you buy tickets at once in both directions - 14.

Terravision Buses - The Most Famous and Profitable Carrier

For passengers from 5 to 12 years old a child fare is applied - 5 Euro one way and 10 Euro both ways. For children under 4 years of age, the rule of free travel is accompanied by an adult who has paid for his ticket.

Tickets for Terravision are better to buy in advance - online. Since it is the most profitable way to get from the airport to the central station in Milan, during the season the demand often exceeds supply and there may not be any available seats.

Bus stops at the airport are located near the terminals T1 and T2

A nice feature of the service is the ability to use a ticket even if the flight is late. You can simply use one of the following buses. There is no need to pay extra for this.

Tickets needed be sure to print for presentation at the control. Online confirmation on the screen of a smartphone or tablet is not accepted.

In 2016, BlogoItaliano recorded a separate truth video, using the example of Terravision in Rome on buying tickets for using the service.

Malpensa Express Train

Another way to get from Milan Airport to the city's central station is to use the special Malpensa Express train. Travel time will be the same 50 minutes, but the trip will cost more than a bus.

As of 2018, a one-way ticket costs 13 euros for an adult and 6.5 euros for a child from 4 to 14 years old. Kids under 4 years old do not need to buy a ticket. For those traveling with family, there is a special rate: 33 euros for 2 adults and 2 children.

Trains from both terminals depart every half hour.

If you plan to fly back also from Malpensa airport, it makes sense to immediately take a round-trip ticket for 20 euros (10 euros for children). But this option is only available when buying online.

Trains leave every half hour from both terminals from 5:40 a.m. to 10:40 p.m. In the opposite direction - from 5:25 to 23:25.

A regular ticket can be bought both online and at the box office (working from 8:30 to 0:25), automatically or through the Trenord railway application. Paper tickets must be composted before boarding a train.

And, of course, it will be useful to make sure that the train you are taking follows precisely to the station of Milano Centrale, since trains depart in other directions from the same platforms.

Taxis from the airport to Milan Central Station

Taxi stands at Milan Malpensa Airport are located in the arrivals area of Terminals 1 and 2. The price for a trip to the city is fixed at 90 euros. However, in practice, drivers very often neglect the rule and turn on the counter.

In this case, the trip is much more expensive, and the final price will greatly depend on where your hotel is located in the city, and on the honesty of the driver, since he may well go a little detour, charging a fare.

It is better to have the address of the right place in the city with you in Italian in order to explain where to take you. Alas, only a small percentage of drivers speak English; I don’t have to speak about Russian knowledge at all.

In order to avoid an unpleasant surprise with the final fare, a taxi can be called in advance by the time of its arrival through a specialized Internet service. In addition to the fact that the final price in this case is calculated online, it often turns out to be even more pleasant than for cars on duty at the terminal.

Taxi fare from Malpensa Airport to Milan

There are other "goodies" in the order via the Internet. The service tries to send drivers speaking the passenger’s language, the driver meets you at the exit from the baggage claim area with a nameplate, and the cost remains fixed even if the flight is too late - the service independently monitors the airport board and sends the car on time.

Finally, when traveling with children - this is a real opportunity to pre-order a child seat in a meeting car. On the spot, cars equipped with a car seat for a child are a rarity, and without them many drivers simply refuse to carry passengers.
